Kilcoole Primary School is School of the Year!

The announcement came through this week that Kilcoole Primary School has been placed in 1st place for their Cumann na mBunscol activities.  This is a huge honour.  In all the schools in the thirty two counties of Ireland the honour has been given to Kilcoole Primary School, Co. Wicklow.  Kilcoole has a principal and staff that are extremely committed to promoting Gaelic games and culture in their school.  Teachers give of their time after school to promote hurling, camogie and Gaelic football and encourage the children to participate in all things Irish, from the language to culture and music.  The prize means that the winning school gets invited to Croke Park for a day where their award will be presented.  They get a stadium and Museum Tour for 30 pupils in their school.  They receive €500 towards bus transport and receive lunch for 30 pupils and 3 staff.

All the hard work is paying off!

PRO Nomination

Another piece of good news is that Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin has been nominated in the PRO category.  This means that a first, second or third place will be coming to the Garden County also.  This will not be announced until the Awards ceremony.  This year’s Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol Awards will take place in the Oriel House Hotel Ballincollig Co. Corkon Friday the 11th March 2016.  We wish all involved the best of luck.  Undoubtedly there is a lot going into the promotion of Gaelic games in primary schools in Wicklow and the hard work of many is being recognised.
