Wicklow's Rising Hurling Stars Clash: The Credit Union Cup 2024

Body:

Over 130 hurlers from across the county descended upon the Wicklow Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill for the annual Credit Union Cup.

Carnew N.S, St. Cronan’s N.S, St. Patrick’s N.S (Wicklow Town), St Patrick’s N.S (Bearna Chlé) and Scoil Chualann all competed for the division 1 title. Every match was keenly contested with no shortage of talent on show. It came down to the final game of the group between St. Cronan’s N.S and St. Patricks N.S Bearna Chlé with St. Cronan’s emerging victorious after a ding dong battle.

The division 2 competition involved Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath, Rathdrum N.S, St. Laurence’s N.S and Kilcoole P.S. This division was action packed with all the skills of our great game on show. Ultimately it was Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath who claimed the title with Rathdrum N.S receiving the runners up medals.

The division 3 group involved many players who are still eligible for primary school hurling and the experience gained this year is sure to be invaluable to them going forward. Teams from St.Patrick’s N.S in Wicklow town, 2 teams from St. Fergal’s N.S and a team from Crossbridge N.S up against each other for the title. It was Crossbridge N.S who came out on top winning all 3 of their games with St.Patricks’s N.S coming runners up. A special mention must go to St. Fergal’s N.S from Bray who turned out two teams and are making a huge effort in their school to promote the game of hurling.

A big thanks to all the teachers and mentors who helped prepare the teams for the competition. Thank you also to Conor Daly who coordinated on the day and also to all the referees who officiated.
