Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh sí – 1st and 2nd class Hurling Blitz a Huge Success!

Body:

The energy and enthusiasm were palpable as over 250 1st and 2nd class children partook in a feast of hurling across two venues: Bray Emmets and Greystones Community National School.

The hurling gods were smiling down on us, as the sun kissed Bray Emmets played host to teams from Greystones Educate Together, Nun’s Cross N.S, Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh, St Peter’s N.S and Holy Rosary N.S. Each team played four 7-aside game with skills levels visibly improving with every game. There were 9 pitches up and running with the games being officiated by 6th class students who completed their ‘Young Whistlers’ training.

Greystones Community National School welcomed teams from St. Laurence’s N.S and Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath. 10 teams competed across 2 groups of 5, with all children getting to play 4 games each. The small sided games allowed the children to get lots of touches on the ball as well as trying out a variety of different positions.

The children were all buzzing after the blitz with many of them having just taken up the sport. It was great to hear that so many were looking forward to getting back with their clubs in the new year and to also hear that so many were looking to join clubs for the first time. A big thanks must go to our two hosting venues Bray Emmets and Greystones CNS along with all the teachers, parents and coaches who were there on the day and who give up their time to do hurling with the children.
