Rounders to the Fore
On Monday 16th May 1st Class from Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin, Coens and Educate Together played in six mini-rounders games, learning the basics rules of the game. With newly purchased rounders gear, students from 1st class played on 3 different zones of Rathnew soccer pitch. Great catches, lovely hits, and lots of running was seen by all. A couple of hours flew by with all children been given the opportunity to use the bat, run, catch and us their decision-making skills to get players out as quick as they could. The children really enjoyed participating and seeing the rules in the context of a game.
On Wednesday 18th May 6th Class from Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin and Coens faced off in their first inter-school rounders match. We expected the hits to go further so we had two games set out. We were proven correct as the 6th class were more than capable of striking the ball. They quickly learned that rounders require strategy, timing, coordination and precision.
There was some excellent bowling accuracy seen from all teams, as well as the skills of catching, throwing and positioning from those outfield.
Huge thanks to the teachers who organised, coached, and umpired on both days. The newly purchased equipment made everything run smoothly and safely.
These sessions sparked enthusiasm for rounders and laid strong foundations for future inter-school competitions. With committed staff, excited students, and quality equipment, rounders is poised to become a yearly feature for Allianz Cumann na mBunscol. Well done to everyone involved—here’s to many more innings ahead!
