GAA Primary School Teacher Summer Courses 2012

Body:

The GAA is running 13 summer in-service courses around the country in July and August. This includes eight five day face-to face courses and two blended courses (three days face-to-face and two days online). This dynamic and popular course is largely practical-based, introducing teachers to Hurling, Gaelic football, Camogie, Ladies Gaelic football, Handball and Rounders. Among the course aims are:

  • To highlight the opportunity to integrate PE through the curriculum with emphasis on the numeracy and literacy programmes by using the GAA Céim ar Aghaidh/Step Ahead Resource.
  • To promote enjoyment of, and positive attitudes towards, physical activity and its contribution to lifelong health-related fitness, thus preparing the child for the active and purposeful use of leisure time.
  • To enable teachers to develop an understanding within pupils of fair play and team spirit through participation and competition.
  • To improve the confidence and competence of teachers in PE pedagogy.

Each teacher who completes the course will receive a complimentary Fun Do Learning Resource Pack and other relevant materials.
