Skills Challenge on 1st week back

Body:

INTO Skills Challenge

The dates and venues for the Skills competition (formerly known as the INTO mini 7s) have been finalised.  Due to the large number of schools now wishing to take part, the competition will be spread over two days in 4 different venues. It is expected that schools will now not have to travel long distances as there will be a venue in your region where the competition will take place.  The county will be divided into 4 regions North, South, East and West - each with a regional centre where the competition will take place. Each region also has a GDA officer who will be present on the day to organise the event.   All 4 codes will take place on the same day. The football skills include the solo run, the fist pass and the hook kick.  The hurling/camogie skills include the solo run, the ground strike on the run and the jab lift and strike.  Each school is entitled to bring two pupils per code - a maximum of 8 pupils per school.  Pupils are not permitted to take part in more than one code.

The North in Bray Emmets GAA grounds and West in Hollywood GAA grounds will take place on Wednesday April 10th at 11 a.m.

North GDA - Garrett Doyle (083 4357460)

West GDA - Paul Garrigan (083 4366801)

The East in Arklow and South in Tinahely GAA grounds will take place on Thursday April 11th at 11.a.m.

East GDA - Leighton Glynn (083 3645136)

South GDA - Colm Gaskin (083 3937411)

Please note that if a pupil in your school has already represented Wicklow in Croke Park, they will not be permitted to do so again.  Please note again that there are strict age limits attached to this competition - it is the schools' responsibility to make sure that all pupils taking part are under the proper age limits.

If you need any assistance please contact Ciarán O’Neill on 087 2808805 or the GDA for your region.

Those selected will go forward to a county selection day which will be held on 17th April in Aughrim.
