National Awards – Two All-Ireland Titles for the Garden County!

The annual Cornmarket National Cumann na mBunscol awards banquet took place in Croke Park on November 16thWicklow was nominated in two categories. Allianz Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin was nominated in the Public Relations category and Kilcoole Primary School was nominated in the School of the Year category.  In both categories we came in first place!  The awards were presented by Liam O’Neill, President of the GAA to Pamela McDermott (Public Relations) and Claire Frawley (Kilcoole Primary School).

This is a countrywide competition and it is a huge honour not only to receive a nomination but to win!  These awards recognise the enormous effort that is being put in to promote gaelic games in the county’s primary schools. Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin have a very dedicated committee, who’s hard work was recognised through this award.  Also the local media give us great exposure and we would like to thank them for this. Allianz Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin were represented on the night by Jim O’Riordán, Dave Barry, Michéal Ó Murchú and Annemarie McKenna.

For Kilcoole Primary School to win school of the year in the country is a huge honour and achievement.  It is testament to the commitment of the staff and Principal Joanne McDonagh to the promotion of Gaelic games.  The school also gets great support from Kilcoole GAA and Camogie club, the Wicklow County Coaches, particularly Garrett Doyle and Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin.  Kilcoole Primary School were represented on the night by Emer Fahy, Tara Walshe, Claire Frawley, Pamela McDermott, Eve Whyte and Aisling Delaney.

 

A great night was had by all.  Well done to all involved and it’s great to see national success coming to the Garden County!
