Coogan Cup
The annual Coogan Cup competition will take place on Friday the 6th March 2015 in Tinahely GAA Club, Co. Wicklow. This event has been organised by Tinahely Juvenile GAA Club through its school link officer Martin Ging. This Gaelic Football event invites primary schools in the North Wexford, South Wicklow and East Carlow catchment area to take part . Schools taking part this year include , Tinahely National School (Wicklow), Kilcommon National School (Wicklow) , Crossbridge National School (Wicklow) , Knockananna National School (Wicklow) , Aughrim National School ( Wicklow) , Annacurra National School ( Wicklow ), Ballyconnell National School ( Carlow ) , Hacketstown National School ( Carlow ), Ballyellis National School ( Wexford ) and Ballythomas National School ( Wexford ). Over 200 boys and girls will take to Tinahely GAA pitch on the Friday morning. The competition/blitz invloves teams of 9 aside boys and girls playing 4 games of 10 minutes each . This competiton/blitz was designed to cater for both boys and girls in 5th and 6th class and its format ensured at least 4 games and a final for every school team invloved. It is a concept that would thrive in areas with bordering counties where cost factors would inhibit schools from entering blitzs organised by their own counties. This event would not take place but for the generosity by Jim Coogan of Coogan Hardware Tinahely and also the continued involvement of local businesses in Tinahely Co Wicklow. The event has become such a success that we have had to turn down schools looking to enter. It has now become an integral event in the calendar of Tinahely Juvenile GAA Club. Tinahely Juvenile GAA club would like to wish all competing schools an enjoyable day. Winners of the Coogan cup in 2014 was Ballythomas National School ( Wexford).
