St. Kevin’s on top in Boys County Finals in Ballinakill

Body:

This week saw the boys county finals being played in Ballinakill, Wicklow’s Centre of Excellence.  There were three great days held where fantastic, skillful football was on show from boys in the Allianz Football league finals from all corners of Wicklow.

St Kevins National School Greystones took the honours in Division 1. Some great football was played during the day with great skills and effort shown by all schools. After some great matches it was St Kevins who topped the group with victories over Baltinglass N.S , Carnew N.S, Hacketstown N.S and St Pats N.S.

In Division 2 there was Kilcoole, Valleymount, Donard and Newtown.  These teams were well matched and games were hard fought with a play off necessary at the end to determine the winners.  Donard emerged victorious with Newtown in second place.  In Division 3 St. Laurences were the winners with captain Thade Shanahan collecting the medals.  The runners up in Division 2 were St. Kevin’s Glendalough and captain Patrick Dunne collected their medals.  Also to get to the county finals in Division 3 were Gaelscoil Lochanna and Knockananna.

Thanks to all the parents and teachers who travelled and to the GDA coaches and referees who ran the leagues so well.  Most of all thanks to the boys who played every game in such a sporting manner.  To get to county finals is a wonderful achievement and it’s hoped it’s a day they will always remember.
