Young Whistlers become Journalists

Body:

Being a young whistler was an amazing experience.  It helped me to realise if you are a referee you are always in charge and nearly always have to be on top of the game.  I was amazed at how all the players listened to me without any questions.  Overall I only had to give two frees.  Although it was hard to shout over all the noise I really liked being a referee.  I would definitely try refereeing another match if I got another opportunity.

On the 21st of January Lewi and I went to Shoreline in Greystones to referee some matches. The teams that were at the event were Kilcoole, Educate Together and St. Pats. We got to referee two matches each, they were 10 minutes long. There were some frees that we had to blow the whistle for and in one game Lewi had to give a penalty and a free.

We recorded the scores in our notebooks but only goals counted. There were no points in the indoor blitz.

We got back to school at half 2. It was a great day and we look forward to refereeing again.
