A Feast of Hurling!

The final primary school hurling blitz of the school year took place in Ballinakill on May 11th with over two hundred children taking part. Fifteen teams, from all over Wicklow, namely Newtown, Kilcoole, Tynock, Talbotstown, Glenealy, St. Pat’s Wicklow, St. Cronan’s, Coolfancy, Scoil Chualann, St. Kevin’s, St. Brigid’s, Gaelscoil Cill Mhantáin, St. Fergal’s, Carnew and Rathcoyle were in participation for The Credit Union Cup. In addition, a team of players will be selected from the blitz to represent Wicklow in a match against a Kilkenny School in Nowlan Park.

The standard of hurling on show in Ballinakill was outstanding with all teams demonstrating a range of skills, excellent teamwork and fantastic score-taking. There were some very entertaining matches with games being decided with the final play of the game.

St Cronans, Scoil Chualann, Ticknock and Glenealy were the teams to win their respective groups and progressed to the semi finals. After two tense games, an all – Bray final was on show between St Cronans and Scoil Chualann with Scoil Chualann edging it in the end. Congratulations Scoil Chualann!

Cumann na mBunscol would like to thank the Transition year students from Rathdrum for refereeing the games and to Ballinakill for hosting the event. Finally, a big thank you to Garrett Doyle, Leighton Glynn and Paul Garrigan for helping to organise this exceptional feast of hurling!
