Schools Serve a Feast of Hurling!

Body:

Last Wednesday, Allianz Cumann na mBunscol held its first hurling blitz of the new school year and if the standard of hurling that was on display continues, we will treated to many more exhibitions of silky skills! The opening day of the Allianz Boys Hurling League took place in Bray Emmets GAA Club on a bright Wednesday afternoon. The objective of the blitz was to have as many children as possible playing hurling with participation being the aim. There were ten schools taking part with each team playing five matches. Some schools brought two teams which really added to the sense of participation on the day. St Cronans (1&2), St Patricks Wicklow (1&2), St Fergals (1&2), Scoil Chualann, St Lawrences, Kilcoole PS, Newtown PS, Gaelscoil Clocha Liatha and Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáín. The level of skill, teamwork and fair play was a joy to watch and each player deserves great praise for their participation. It was refreshing to see some new schools playing in the blitz and we hope to see more in the future! Thank you to Dave Barry and Bray Emmets GAA Club for hosting our event and setting up the pitches. In addition, thank you to Garrett Doyle GDA and his continuing help with our blitzes. Liam Keenan, Daire Lohan and Shay Finn assisted as referees as well and Mr Cuddihy! Finally, huge thank you to all the schools, children and teachers who participated on the day and hopefully we will see you all again on the 28th September for Day 2!
