5th & 6th Class Girls Football Participation Day October ‘16
Wicklow has been blessed with beautiful weather this autumn. Even coming towards the end of the season & the harsh winds & chills of winter on the horizon, Bray Emmets GAA Club was awash with sunshine. And so it was on this crisp autumn day; sixteen schools attended the first 5th & 6th class blitz of the ’16 / ’17 school year, which was a fantastic turn out. All in all, twenty-four teams played in four groups. The sixteen teams that participated were; Rathdrum N.S. Newtown N.S. Kilcoole N.S. Glenealy N.S. Scoil Chualann Bray, St Fergal’s Bray, Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh, Gaelscoil Arklow, Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin, Kilmacanogue N.S. Moneystown N.S. Roundwood N.S. Wicklow Educate Together, St. Laurence’s Greystones, St Brigid’s Greystones & St. Kevin’s Greystones. The standard of football was very high & there was a constant flow of games throughout the day. To see such a fantastic turnout of teams was fantastic. As always Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Wicklow extends its gratitude to Bray Emmets GAA Club for opening their grounds to us. Thanks also to Garrett Doyle & Mícheál Ó’Murchú for having the pitches ready & prepared for action for the children. Thank you also to the parents & teachers for taking the time out to bring the children from various parts of Wicklow to the blitz. Finally, thank you to our ‘young whistlers’ from Kilcoole N.S., St Kevin’s N.S. & Scoil Chualann for officiating at the matches! The GAA will not be short of referees in the coming years!
