Over 300 boys enjoying Gaelic football!
Today was the turn of the 3rd and 4th class boys. Their first football outing of the year was a great success and the 'Participation Blitz', held in Bray Emmets GAA Grounds, had over 300 boys enjoying Gaelic Football.
Although the early morning weather wasn't what was hoped for, the boys took to the fields of play with gusto, and as the sun began to shine, so too did the players, with some great displays of skill and teamwork.
Even though it was a 3rd/4th class tournament we had a mixture of novice and experience and it was great to see so many new players experience structured games for the first, bravo all!
A special word of 'Thanks' goes to Dave Barry & Michael Ó Murchú for firstly, organising the facilities and having the grounds 'match ready' for the children and secondly, for overseeing the fixtures in Groups 1&2 and ensuring the schedule ran smoothly.
Also to Garrett Doyle GDA for organising our Transition Year Student referees, and furthering their development, as well as overseeing Groups, 5, 6 & 7.
To all the Young Whistlers from the various schools around North Wicklow - thank you - a very competent display was shown by all, onwards and upwards!
Lastly, to the teachers, coaches, parents, but especially the children, who attended today's blitz, a very hearty 'WELL DONE', an excellent display of sportsmanship all round.
The 30 participating teams were from the following schools: St. Laurence's Greystones (4 teams), Ravenswell Bray (3 teams), Kilmacanogue (3), St. Patrick's Wicklow Town (3), St.Peter's Bray (2), St. Kevin's Greystones (2), Ashford (2), St. Cronin's Bray (2), Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh Brí Chulann (2), Moneystown (1), Newtown (1), St. Brigid's Greystones(1), Kilcoole (1), Scoil Chulann Brí Chulann (1), Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin (1) & Gaelscoil Clocha LIath (1).
