Jim, A True Gentleman

The final meeting of the year for Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin took place on Tuesday 19th June where the fixtures for the next school year were drafted. Another reason for this gathering was to honour Cathaoirleach, Jim O’Riordan who is retiring from Newtownmountkennedy Primary School at the end of this school year. Jim has given years of service to Gaelic games in the Garden County. He became secretary of Cumann na mBunscol in 1988 and has been the chairperson since 1998. The current committee and members of past committees enjoyed an evening of reminiscing and regaling tales of Jim’s involvement, of which there were many. Leas-chathaoirleach, Sinéad Ní Chrean Loinsigh spoke of Jim as the astute captain of a ship, a friend to all, a man of his word, but most of all a true gentleman. All in Allianz Cumann na mBunscol wish Jim well in his retirement and hope to see him still involved on the playing pitches of the Garden County in the near future.
