Hurling in the Sun in Kiltegan
It’s hard to believe it was November when hurlers from all areas of West Wicklow arrived in Kiltegan on Friday 18th November for their hurling blitz. The sun was shining and there was a smell of freshly cut grass on the well turned out Kiltegan pitch. Teams from Manor Kilbride, Baltinglass, Talbotstown, Rathcoyle, Tyknock, Donard, Knockananna and Dunlavin made up the eleven team competition. Over one hundred children took part in the blitz with teams mixed with boys and girls from the senior classes in the schools. Play began at 10.30 and continued until 12.30 with each team playing four games. The standard of play from all teams was very good with a high level of skill and determination displayed by all participants. Teams had an opportunity to play on both a grass surface and also on the beautiful all weather pitch which is a fabulous addition to the Kiltegan facilities. When play eventually came to an end, some local rivalries had been renewed but everyone left on a high. A big thank you to teachers and parents for transporting and looking after children on the day. An extra word of gratitude to those who stepped in as referees at the last minute. A final thank you to Rónan Byrne for setting up the pitches and to Kiltegan GAA club for allowing us to use their lovely facilities.
