Roundwood Claim Top Spot at Well Attended Allianz Tráth na gCeist
There was a super turnout at the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tráth na gCeist in Lynham's Hotel in Laragh on the 7th of November. Schools travelled from every corner of Wicklow to show their knowledge on all things GAA. There were 8 rounds in total including questions on the GAA, current affairs, general knowledge, Irish geography, county songs, a picture round and even some Maths questions thrown in for good measure! Quiz master Billy Cuddihy kept things moving along nicely with a raffle thrown in between rounds to entertain. Thanks to all the schools for donating such fantastic prizes which meant many of the participating children went home with a well-earned prize on the night. Special word of thanks to Wicklow Camogie for donating some great prizes too, it is much appreciated. After the final round Roundwood NS 2 emerged as clear winners in 1st place with a super score of 66 points. 3 teams (Greystones Community NS, Roundwood 3 and Hollywood) tied for 2nd, on 62 points, which led to a tie breaker situation, after which Roundwood NS 3 came in in 2nd place with Greystones Community NS in 3rd. Thanks to all who volunteered to make the night possible, to the teachers who prepared the quiz teams, the parents who travelled to Laragh but most importantly to the 38 teams who participated in a great night (Schools represented included Roundwood, Hollywood, Greystones Community National School, Rathcoyle, Scoil Naomh Iósaf, Kilcoole, Rathdrum BNS, St. Mary’s NS Blessington, Scoil Treasa Naomha Tynock, Talbotstown, Scoil Chualann, Ballyconnell, Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin, Aughrim NS, St. Mary’s and St. Gerard’s, St. Laurence’s, Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath, St. Peter’s and Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa). Our winning team will go forward to represent Cumann na mBunscol Wicklow at the All-Ireland Cumann na mBunscol Quiz Final on Sunday 23rd March in the Tullamore Court Hotel, we wish them the very best of luck.
